The Croatian Natural History Museum is the national centre and parent institution for the collection, preservation, protection, presentation and scientific processing of natural history museum material. Around 1.5 million objects are stored in the Museum’s zoological, botanical, geological and mineralogical collections. The special value of the Museum lies in the 160 years’ long tradition of the scientific research of natural heritage.

The Museum also has a rich library and it publishes the scientific and professional journal Natura Croatica. The journal is indexed in numerous world citation databases.

The richness of natural history material, numerous thematic exhibitions and workshops, scientific and professional research, as well as a large number of highly educated employees from various fields of natural sciences make it one of the key institutions of natural sciences. Moreover, it is also an educational centre for natural sciences.

 

The vision of the institution is a researched, valued and protected natural and cultural heritage of Croatia, while the mission of the Croatian Natural History Museum is to collect, preserve, protect, present and process the Museum’s natural history material. Furthermore, its mission is also to educate and popularize natural sciences and the scientific research that is in the function of valuating and protecting Croatia’s natural heritage.
